Elk Cove Mt. Richmond Pinot Noir Pinot Noir Oregon Willamette Valley 2009
Elk Cove Vineyards was established in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell on a secluded property in the North Willamette Valley. The estate vineyard was planted in a valley where the namesake Roosevelt elk migrate each spring. The focus has always been on handcrafted, estate produced wines that can rival the best in the world. Today the vineyards cover 600 acres on four separate sites including 180 acres of mature vineyards from the Estate, Windhill, Mount Richmond and Five Mountain Vineyards. The first planted vineyard was on a gentle south facing slope of Willakenzie and Laurelwood soil types - ancient marine sedimentary soils over sandstone and siltstone. Winemaker Adam Campbell, son of the owners, continues the family tradition of noninterventionist winemaking through proper site selection and meticulous vine management, low yields and gravity flow at the winery. The winery's focus is on the Pinot trilogy - Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. Elk Cove is trusted source for consistently fine Oregon wines.

A stellar follow-up to the 2008 vintage which received 94 points in the Wine Spectator! Winemaker Notes - This vineyard site was purchased in 1996 in partnership between Adam and his wife Carrie, and parents Pat and Joe Campbell. The motivation for planting this vineyard was to emulate the wine quality from sites such as our esteemed Roosevelt vineyard. This site now holds the honor as the largest vineyard holding of ECV totaling 105 acres. Mount Richmond sits at 300-500 feet elevation, lower than the vineyards planted at the winery, which allows for earlier ripening. 2009 was a vintage of abundance which may be remembered as one of those rare combinations of excellent quality and quantity, with the wines showing flash.
