Elian du Ros le Vin Est Un Fete Cotes du Marmandais 2014

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop in London's Primrose Hill [www.bottleapostle.com] for £12.50. The Cotes du Marmandais is an appellation created in 1990,although there has been viticulture here for centuries, for red and white wines [though 85% are red] from 29 communes along both banks of the river Garonne around the town of Marmande to the south of the Bordeaux region.Elian da Ros is one of the leading vignerons of this appellation. My bottle consists of 40% abouriou,an unusual and obscure grape that originated in this area,40% cabernet franc and 20% merlot.and was aged in oak barrels.I started my bottle last night with my supper of roast pork.My first impresion was that this is a dry wine but there is some slightly sweet and spicy cherry style fruit. It is full bodied and well structured. In short I thought this to be different but I liked it and it went well with the pork.

Elian Da Ros:
Elian da Ros used to work for Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace but in 1998 he returned home to the Cotes du Marmandais to take over his father's 5 hectare estate. He started making and bottling his own wine rather than using the co-operative and was the first vigneron in the appellation to do so.He now has 22 hectares worked organically and produces a range of red and white wines
