Powerful aromas leap from the glass on opening, including plum, vanilla and chocolate, with notes of pepper and blueberry adding to the luscious medley. A wonderful, plush, buttery mouthfeel spreads throughout the palate with blackberry, plum and chocolate following, punctuated by a zingy, peppery display of syncopated, upbeat acidity. A touch of sweet pipe tobacco decorates the center. Rich, smooth tannins maintain a complex structure through a long, luxurious finish in which the symphony of tastes continues to emerge. Deeper, more varied tastes of dark fruit evolve with time. This wine becomes increasingly complex, developing velvety layers and rich combinations with time in the air. Absolutely wonderful at 3 hours. A nice surprise at four hours is a fresh whiff of peppermint on the nose and new earthy flavors on the palate, rendering this wine a mercurial delight for an entire evening.

Powerful, complex aromas leap from glass on opening, including plum, vanilla and chocolate, with notes of pepper and blueberry adding to the luscious medley. A sumptuous plush, buttery mouthfeel spreads throughout the palate with plum and chocolate following, punctuated by a zingy, peppery finish. A rich, silky texture covers the tongue, and smooth tannins keep a symphony of tastes emerging. Deeper tastes of dark fruit develop with decanting over three hours. Wine becomes more complex, velvety and layered with time in the air. Needs three hours to reach peak. Absolutely wonderful at 4 hours.

Bright ruby. Sexy oak spices and blackberry on the nose, with a deeper boysenberry quality developing with air. Sappy and velvety in texture, with penetrating dark berry, bitter cherry skin and baking spice flavors. Finishes broad, sweet and long, repeating the dark fruit notes and leaving an alluring violet pastille note behind.Retains bright hue; has good structure and length to its black fruits which are framed by gentle vanillin oak. Screwcap.

Elderton is making classically styled Barossa Shiraz, marrying raspberry fruit with rich chocolaty overtones and wrapping them in a soft cocoon of supple tannins and balanced acidity. Drink now-2014. - J.C. Wine Enthusiast. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2006 Elderton Shiraz 750ml
