Elderton Sémillon Botrytis 2008
Berry Bros & Rudd review:
A glorious Australian version of Sauternes! A hedonistic bouquet of honeyed apricot and peach, cut by hints of citrus peel, followed by a rich, unctuous texture on the palate and a long, positive finish. Although the wine is extremely sweet it does not display a cloying, sugary sweetness, but rather a clean, complex richness which would partner soft summer fruit dishes very well, especially those served as part of a creamy dessert.
(Alun Griffiths MW, BBR Buyer)

Bright gold. Ripe peach and apricot scents are deepened by buttery toffee and toasted nuts. Silky, sweet and pure, displaying an array of caramelized orchard and pit fruit flavors. Lush and open-knit on the long, sappy finish. This is a dessert by itself.
Vivid gold. Spicy orange and peach scents offer good clarity and lift. Sweet pit fruit and melon flavors are moderately deep, with a tangy citrus bite adding energy. Less exotic than the 2005 but probably more flexible with food.
There is one white wine, a sticky made from Semillon. The 2006 Botrytis Semillon is medium gold with aromas of peach, apricot and candied tropical fruits. The wine is ripe, viscous, and age-worthy. Drink it with fruit tarts and cheesecake.
Somewhat under the radar for American consumers is Elderton's top-class Semillon Botrytis. The 2005, a Sauternes look-alike, reveals aromas of creme brulee, buttery pineapple, and toasty oak in its rich, moderately sweet personality. Good background acidity and structure suggest it will evolve nicely for a decade.
