El Coto Cote de Imaz Gran Reserva 1996

Winemaker's Notes:

Ein Wein aus einem der ganz großen Jahrgänge. Schön dunkle, kirschrote bis granatrote Farbe. Feines Aroma mit großem Fruchtausdruck.

cherry, coffee and blackberry on the nose, intense tart, acidic cherries on the palette with delicate oak and subtle hints of cocoa, with plum and cherry vanilla finish. This wine could easily age more.

91 points and an `Editors' Choice` from Wine Enthusiast Magazine: `Broad-shouldered and muscled-up, this hearty wine seems more youthful than it is. The nose is spicy and full of lively berry aromas, while the palate is laced with red cherry, raspberry and vanilla. Its a classic gran reserva with dried qualities and spice. Its right on the money.` (9/1/2007) 90 points from Wineand Spirits Magazine: `This wine's mature, complex scents meld cherry with the spice of oak. It's a heady and potent combination, a balance of weight and gentleness that comes together with several hours of air. A fine red for braised rabbit.` (12/06)
