Ehlers Estate Merlot St Helena Napa Valley 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Another luscious, full, and rich Merlot that illustrates the full potential of the Ehlers terroir. A complex of licorice, morning toast, earl grey tea, vanilla, dark chocolate, red raspberry defines this vintage. The tannins are at once fine and chewy, and the bold, juicy structure of the wine is what has always made the Ehlers Merlot 'a Merlot for Cabernet drinkers.' 100% estate grown farming: 100% CCOF certified organic, 100% Demeter certified biodynamic. Barrel aged in 100% French oak (50% new). 988 cases produced. Alcohol 14.2%. Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 92 points and 'Editors' Choice' by Wine Enthusiast: Ehlers is one of those Napa wineries that flies below the radar, but insiders get it. This Merlot, which comes from the St. Helena estate, is dry and tannic, yet shows the sensual softness you want in Merlot, with sweet tiers of cherries, red currants, mocha and spicy persimmons. 950 cases produced. Alcohol 14.5%.
