Egervin Red Blend Egri Bikavér Bulls Blood 2007

External Review by Astor Wines & Spirits:

There's nothing to fear in this bottle of Bull's Blood. Its rustic, sturdy character makes it perfect with anything grilled or (even better) spit-roasted.

The "Flagship" of Egervin Co. is the world-famous Egri Bikavér, or Bull's Blood of Eger - Erlauer Stierblut in German language. It acquired its name in the middle of the 16th century when heroic Hungarian soldiers, defending the castle of Eger and outnumbered ten to one, successfully repelled the invading Turks. The Turks could see that the Hungarians were drinking something red and concluded that their strength had come from drinking the blood of bulls. The Bull's Blood of Eger is made of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Kékfrankos and Oporto grapes, which together give this wine its deep ruby color, mouth-watering bouquet and subtle, spicy, fruit-driven flavor.

There's a lot of flavor volume in this big, ripe red, filled with sun-baked cherry fruit. Tannin cleans and shortens the finish. Serve with barbecued meats.
