Edna Valley Winery Cabernet Sauvignon San Luis Obispo County 2006
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon has a traditional old-world style that opens with leather, cocoa powder, anise and blackberry jam. Pleasant and smooth, the ripe fruit and earth influences carry across the mid-palate for an approachable wine. Balanced acidity and fine, firm tannins complete the profile. This easy-going wine complements almost any occasion, pairing well with a variety of foods ranging from pan-seared pork chops to rich, meaty steaks.
Big bold nose of fruit and spice. The taste itself fell far short of this introduction. At first somewhat acidic and then a bit flat we were disappointed after looking forward to a bold and flavorful wine. After breathing for a bit, some dryness that we were expecting at first taste appeared, at the back of the palate. Longer finish than preferred.
Enjoyed the 2006 at Marine Room in La Jolla paired with their dark sauted mushrooms appetizer.
