Edna Valley Vineyard Chardonnay Paragon Edna Valley 2012

Member Review by Tbandcwfjourney:

Had glass at TSC (makes sense that it's sold by Costco). Just didn't pick up much of anything. A slight hint of oak and very acidic.

Its location in one of the state's few east/west-oriented valleys allows nighttime coastal fog to move inland, cooling the grapes after a long day in the sunlight, so that they slowly mature while retaining sufficient acidity. The vineyard's unique site consists of layers of clay and volcanic rock over ancient ocean subsoil. This excellent Chardonnay is available for a song ($7.99) at Costco. Crisp yet full of flavor, it tastes like a Chardonnay priced three times higher. Expressive nose of apricot, pear, and citrus oil. In the mouth, fresh and refreshing and displaying satisfying lemon drop and spice notes. Not dull or clumsy or sweet in the mouth like many inexpensive Chardonnays. Nice finish, too.

OK. Nose is floral, with a slight undertone of barnyard. Taste is creamy from the beginning going towards acidic on the back end.

Flavorful. Buttery and oakey.

With chicken in wine, a clean, light, slightly buttery flavor with a vanilla finish. Not as complex as I would like, with a bit too much sour grass for me. Not my favorite style.

Ripe peach, pear, apricot and pineapple fruit with underlying notes of cinnamon and caramel. MInerlaity and freshness in the mouth with medium body weight and appealing acidity.

Pale gold color. Fresh pineapple aroma lifted by a minty nuance. Juicy, fresh and fruit-driven, with sweet flavors of pineapple and mango. Not complex but offers good texture and freshness.

Smoky aromas of vanilla oak and sweet spice balance lush flavors of white peach and citrus.

Clean and refreshing, with lively, well-focused pear, apple, peach and spice nuances. Finishes with a crisp, lively aftertaste. Ready now.

A slight citrus, orange peel quality complements the traditional tropical fruit, apple, toast and butter characteristics Edna Valley is known for, making this wine a great match with lemon chicken or almost any grilled fish in a citrus based sauce.

A chalky mineral scent introduces this lean and intense young Chardonnay. The waxy texture should expand over the coming year, deepening the oak smoke and mild citrus fruit. Serve it with flavorful fish, like a lightly poached arctic char.

Creamy-textured and lemony, with focused citrus, tangerine and juicy pineapple flavors that are tasty and direct. Drink now.
