Edna Valley Cabernet Sauvignon San Luis Obispo County 2005
Wine Tasting Notes The Cabernet Sauvignon has a traditional old-world style that opens with leather, cocoa powder, anise and blackberry jam. Pleasant and smooth, the ripe fruit and earth influences carry across the mid-palate for an approachable wine. Balanced acidity and fine, firm tannins complete the profile. This easy-going wine complements almost any occasion, pairing well with a variety of foods ranging from pan-seared pork chops to rich, meaty steaks.
Stir-fried beef. Alone, began with blueberry, chocolate, cigar box flavor and not much aroma. The rich food brought out ripe fruit flavors much more and a nice peppery dry finish and aftertaste. Surprisingly good Cabernet for this price. A dinner wine for spicy meat dishes.
The nose starts with dark cabernet sauvignon fruit but gives way to an alcoholic astringency. The flavor on the palate follows suit, with some enjoyable dark fruit but an unbalanced, alcoholic finish.
Bought this wine at Vons for 8.99 and it is a delicious surprise. I love it and think it is smooth. Pairing with cheese and crackers and a sirloing steak. Perfect and what a bargain!
