Edmunds St. John Shell & Bone White Blend 2005

Member Review by Mark Angelillo:

Pale golden in color, with a refreshing lychee and melon nose with a hint of sweetness. Palate is dry with a sharp funky character -- fruity on the attack but becoming almost vegetal in character with some oak. This is an interesting wine with a broad range of flavors and smells.

Edmunds St. John:
We have little taste for most of the wines of the New World and Australia; however, we greatly admire some of those produced by the "second generation" of California vintners, ... above all, those of the astonishing Steve Edmunds; his wines do more than express the particular personality of the vintner and have entered the arena of those that are an expression of the land and culture.

Wheat, diesel, corn syrup, and grapefruit. Great consistency on the tongue, and delightfully strange.

OK, thats a funky wine - like Chenin Blanc mixed with Sauv Blanc, turns out its Viognier and Roussanne. Very oily and mineral. Thick mouthfeel, spicy and lemongrass on the finish.

Try this intriguing blend of Viognier and Roussanne and you'll think you're drinking a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
