Edmeades Mendocino County 2006
90 pts -Robert ParkerWinemaker Van Williams marches to the beat of his own drum up in Mendocino County. He has turned out a beautiful 2006 Zinfandel that sells for a song. This has got to be one of the better values, and of course, 2006 looks to be a vastly superior vintage to 2005 for Zinfandel. This wine, which has some Petite Sirah, Merlot, Syrah, and Grenache blended in, exhibits deep ruby color and a big, sweet nose of peppery black cherry and raspberry liqueur intermixed with spring flowers and earth. The wine is medium to full-bodied, ripe, and altogether a hedonistic mouthful of big Zinfandel. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
The first row of vines were barely in the ground when the neighbors began lining up to lean on their shovels and scoff. Grapes in Anderson Valley? Nobody could make it work, they insisted. The naysayers grew so vocal that Dr. Donald Edmeades dragged some old redwood planks out from behind the barn, found some red paint, and christened his vineyard with a sign out on Highway 128: "Edmeades' Folly."
Not very interesting, the wine was not bad just not complex or challenging to my palate.
i have to agree with Jon of Sonoma.
It was funny to see how in agreement we all are. I logged on after drinking this to post almost exactly the message Jon just posted. At this price, there are a lot of wines I'd prefer. Try Four Vines Zin for 11.99.
A lovely wine - big, fruity, slightly sweet with a nice crunchy berry finish went well with the Confit of Duck with Cranberry Relish on a Polenta Croute. Teh wine is a blend of 85.45 Zinfandel, 7.2% Petit Syrah, 3.7% Merlot, 2.7% Syrah and 1% Grenache. http://www.spittoon.biz/wine_and_food_matching_ideas_f.html
Opened Aug 2016.....this has taken on a dark burgundy color with tawny/blueberry tones on the edges. Aromas are boozy initially, but after some air this mellows out, and deep oaked and various wood characteristics along with some strong spicy smells....pepper, vanilla, and char. Super dark raisiny fruits like black cherry and plum...think the blackest of black. Flavors follow suit, with initial spicy alcohol, sharp tannins, spices....anise/licorice/peppercorn, oaked vanilla and perhaps a dollop of cinnamon alongside....the mouthfeel is velvety and of mellow oak richness and lingering cherry richness on the aftertaste...I'm glad I saved this bottle for so long and if anyone has some of this in any vintage, it WILL HOLD for 10 years...I recommend drinking by this time however as I feel it is in it's twilight before going downhill. Recommended!
Fairly boring up front. Some interesting flavors near the end, but doesn't really hold up in comparison with bigger zins.

The Grenache adds a perfumed, spicy fruitiness to the aromas. The Petite Sirah fills in the middle palate with meaty, darker fruit flavors.
