Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio Venezie IGT 2006
Winemaker Notes Our Pinot Grigio is crafted from 94% Pinot Grigio grapes and 6% Chardonnay from Trentino, harvested at optimal maturity levels. The wine was made “in bianco” or “in the white,” referring to the vinification process that transforms the blue-gray colored berries into delicate white wine. A soft pressing was used to enhance flavor extraction while imparting minimal color from the skins. The juice was fermented in temperature-controlled tanks and a selection of specific yeast was added at a temperature of 20°C. To intensify the tropical fruit characteristics of the wine, 12% of the blend is surmaturo Pinot Grigio grapes, which are grapes that are left on the vine longer than normal, allowing the juice to develop greater concentration and complexity from the extended hang time. After settling, the wine was cold stabilized, filtered and bottled under sterile conditions, avoiding malolactic fermentation and preserving the fruit characteristics of the wine. Finished Wine Varietal Content: 94% Pinot Grigio, 6% Chardonnay Appellation: delle Venezie Alcohol Level: 12.6% Residual sugar: 0.10 g/100ml Total acidity: 0.58-0.62 g/100ml pH: 3.33-3.34
82/100 - Pale, yellow and clear, crisp color. Initial nose is fruity and light. To be honest, it has a little bit of weak nose; sort of pulls the wine down a little. First taste: some subtle sweetness that rapidly gets overridden by the the crisp acidity of this wine. The acidity of it is quite nice, although the overall wine is fairly flat. The wine finishes nicely and lingers for about 10-15 seconds, although a bit of bitterness peaks through at the very end. Not a bad Pinot Grigio for the price (in Ct = $11). I think overall it could use a little more time; which is bringing the score down for this one, so I would have to come back to this one again in a few years I think and it would go up to the 85-87 range.
Aromas of apple, melon, and honeysuckle. Medium acidity with a moderate finish. Overall a balanced, simple wine.
Like the other reviewer I found the nose to be very weak. Overall i wasnt impressed, the attack was soft. This is basically an insipid Pinot Grigio... The finish was bland and slightly tart too.
