Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio(2003)

made up of three smaller growing regions: Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. With a climate known for “cool nights and warm days,” conditions in the Tre Venezie are conducive to exceptional grape maturation. Ecco Domani meticulously combines the inherent strengths of the fruit from each of these premier regions to create full-flavored wines with superb colors and wonderful aromas, backed by fine levels of intensity. Grapes drawn from the Friuli Giulia provide the wine its aromatic components, and those from the Veneto provide body and texture.

Viticultural Notes:
The 2003 harvest was characterized by a dry spell throughout Italy, beginning in February and extending through the harvest. The vines in Northern Italy did not suffer, despite the fact that the precipitation was the lowest it has been in 50 years. In all regions of the Tre Venezie, maturation of the fruit was excellent, with a very high sugar level and exquisite intensity in the wines. The sugar level was 1% higher than in the 2002 harvest, and the quantity of fruit was similar, but with a higher than usual concentration of aromas.

Winemaker Notes:
Our Pinot Grigio is crafted from 100% Pinot Grigio varietal grapes, harvested at optimal maturity levels. The wine was made “in bianco” or “in the white,” referring to the vinification process that transforms the blue-gray colored berries into delicate white wine. A soft pressing was employed to enhance flavor extraction while imparting minimal color from the skins. The juice was fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks, and a selection of specific yeast was added at a temperature of 20°C for inoculation. To intensify the tropical characteristics of the wine, 5% of the blend is late-harvest Pinot Grigio grapes that were vinified and added to the final blend. After settling, the wine was cold stabilized, filtered and bottled under cold, sterile conditions, avoiding malolactic fermentation and preserving the fruit characteristics of the wine.

Tasting Notes:
This wine has a clear, straw yellow color, with light golden reflections. A low concentration of mature grapes gives the wine tropical fruit notes that make the vintage truly unique. The wine possesses pleasant floral and tropical fruit aromas, and has a light, crisp, clean and refreshing flavor, with fruit character and refined elegance.
