Earthquake Zinfandel 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

TASTING NOTES: Peppery and spicy with plenty of berry fruit (cherries and raspberries) intertwined with dusty, loamy soil, incense and a Provencal garrigue-like note jump from the glass of this impressive wine. WINEMAKING Over the top and shattering to the veins! These wines possess major concentration and daring flavor with only a limited production offered each year. The original is the Earthquake Zin that comes from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time of San Francisco’s great Earthquake of 1906. While mulling over a label name in the vineyard, Michael Phillips thought it only seemed fitting to relate this intense wine with the historical quake. With over 15% alcohol and bold tannins, these dark and voluminous wines will definitely leave your senses quivering. 2012 was an exceptional vintage for Lodi. The wine grape quality well exceeded average across all varietals, and the ideal weather provided us with a great harvest. Little if any rain during harvest and warm days with cool nights made for one of the most reliable vintages in years. - Winery COMPOSITION: Zinfandel with some Petite Sirah blended in BARREL AGING: 12 months in American oak T.A.: 0.63g/100ml pH: 3.55 ALC. BY VOL.: 15.5%

Bright red-ruby. Blackberry, licorice, coffee and nutty oak on the nose. Plush and sweet, offering an enticing combination of thick texture and energy. Easygoing dark fruit flavors are framed by the wine's spicy oak component. Very mellow zinfandel with the nutty oak note repeating on the finish.

This is Zinfandel at its richest. Boysenberry, vanilla and maple syrup aromas meet up with jammy fruit flavors that coat the mouth and linger on the finish. For all its fullness, it stays balanced and dry. It does not feel heavy in texture nor heavily oaked.
