The 2009 and 2010 Cotes du Rhone Blancs are blends of 55% Viognier and the rest Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc, all aged in tank. While there are multiple bottlings given the massive production, they are consistent from bottling to bottling. The freshness, exotic tropical fruits, fragrant bouquets, dry, fleshy mid-palates and crisp finishes of these wines will be admired by consumers. These wines over-deliver in every sense, and they should drink well for several years.

Dark purple. Extroverted aromas of candied plum, cassis and minerals, with a smoky topnote. Dense and sweet but showing surprising vivacity, with bright, spicy lift to its concentrated cherry, dark chocolate and violet pastille flavors. A seamless, broad and fleshy wine that shows the ripeness of the vintage in its best light, with supple tannins adding grip to the finish.

A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2010 Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rose 750ml

Nearly as impressive, the 2010 St.-Joseph Lieu-Dit St.-Joseph is loaded with strawberry, black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of smoke and crushed rocks. Deep, rich and full-bodied with even more vivid minerality than the 2009, it should last for 15 or more years.

Mittellanger Abgang.

Gorgeous, with boysenberry, blackberry and raspberry fruit seamlessly layered, lined with polished mesquite and alder notes and backed by a long, anise-, black tea- and fruitcake-filled finish. Dense, but sleek and refined, with serious latent depth. Best from 2015 through 2025.
