Dynamite Vineyards Merlot North Coast 2009

External Review:

This wine from Dynamite Vineyards is a little different and a lot fabulous! Instead of focusing on a single varietal like in their other wines, Winemaker Bob Masyczek put together a blend of grapes, primarily from Napa and Sonoma that really makes a statement. 59% Merlot, 13% Syrah, 12% Zinfandel, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petite Sirah, 2% Malbec, 1.5%Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in French and American oak. The flavors are layed and multi-dimensionla with ripe berry fruit and live exotic spice. Don’t miss this while it ON SALE!!!

Dynamite Vineyards:
The name Dynamite Vineyards is atribute to our beginnings on rocky slopes that are so rugged we had to blast through rock to plant vaneyards.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Had this with my wife tonight with bone-in filets. We were not terribly impressed. Has a bit of a strong alcohol taste and was not very smooth. My wife asked me to put it on our "do not order" list.

This is not my favorite year (2006) for Dynamite Merlot. I can't wait until my store gets rid of the 2006 and starts selling the 2007 Merlot. It could only be better.

On the nose, the Merlot shows aromas of black cherry, blueberry, currant and toast. Flavors of dark fruits and cherries are accompanied by hints of dark chocolate and vanilla. Medium on the palate, this Merlot has light, ripe tannins and a long finish. - Winery
