What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Winemakers Notes

Starting out with great red cherry and raspberry fruit then shifting into more herbal, spicy aromas of fresh tobacco leaf, green olives, and straw, the nose of our 2007 Dutton Pinot Noir seems to wash back and forth as it opens over time, showing some segments of its complexity one moment and others the next. Editorial Reviews

This quintessential Russian River Pinot starts off with an earthy edge to the sweet dark cherry fruit then gains nice spice notes with a hint of raw meat then a touch of beet root and dried herbs. Mild raspberry nose, citric body, very well balanced.

A bit of a muted nose, but there were some black fruit and savory spices here, particularly oregano. A bit tight and could benefit with some more time in the bottle as this is a baby.
