Dutton-Goldfield Chardonnay Russian River Valley Rued Vineyard 2009
Winemaker's Notes:
A blend of five of our favorite Dutton Ranch chardonnay vineyards in Russian River Valley. The warm spring, classic foggy nights and warm days of the 2009 summer, and long, cool ripening season gave us fantastic flavor development in our chardonnays. Due to its old vine origin, the Dutton Ranch Chardonnay might be our most consistent offering, but this exceptional vintage amps up the candied Myer lemon and tangerine fruit characters, while maintaining the fresh acidity and moderate alcohol that have always carried this wine. In the nose, it's a veritable citrus and tropical fruit basket, with caramel and toffee overtones. At the same time, its wonderful freshness and minerality in the mouth balances the promised lushness. Tangerine and pear fruit lead, along with a creaminess and nutmeg note that comes from perfectly ripe fruit and the stirred barrels. This wine offer a wonderful combination of softness and focus that carries through to the lingering citrus and green apple finish. I love just sipping this wine, but it's also perfect with roast chicken or just about any fish dish.

Editorial Reviews for Dutton-Goldfield Chardonnay Russian River Valley Rued Vineyard
A bit subtle on the nose with slow to emerge notes of almond, honeycomb and pressed flowers accenting the green apple and creamy citrus fruits. Fairly bright up front, this turns round and almost lush in the mouth with a lovely combination of brightness, minerality and opulence. The fruit is rich and ripe with hints of mango and sweet pear over a core of pineapple that’s been seared in butter. The finish carries elegance and power with nice, toasty aromatics over the tropical fruit. 92pts
Very pretty on the nose, subtle but complex with notes of flowers, integrated wood, cheese rind, lightly waxy orchard fruits and a little tropical citrus. Love this on entry, bright, broad and tall, but really clear and well defined. The fruit here is fresh and pure with the orchard fruit of the nose framed by light dried tangerine peels and a hint of vanilla cream. The texture turns a bit creamy with air but never gets weighty and the subtle spice of wood adds some nice accents on the back end and pops on the long finish, accenting the almost peachy fruit on the finale. Delicious. 92pts

Fresh apple appears on the nose framed by hints of apple blossom and a touch of caramel. On the palate, this young chardonnay shows considerable restraint, with a plush, apple fruit mid-palate, accented by nuanced wood spice and caramel. The wine fin... Devon Magee.
