Bright ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, licorice, graphite and game. Dense, supple and rich in extract; juicy flavors of cassis and licorice. Offers impressive texture for the vintage, but comes across as distinctly less sweet than the Howell Mountain bottling. Finishes with very good length and ripe, fairly substantial tannins that grew slightly dry with aeration.

From one of California's most experienced Cabernet Sauvignon winemakers, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa possesses an inky/purple color as well as a restrained, but sweet bouquet of blackberries intermixed with hints of new saddle leather and crushed rocks. Firmly structured, with a steely spine, exuberant, rich fruit, and a powerful, highly tannic finish, it should be cellared for 7-8 years, and drunk over the following two decades.

The opaque blue/purple-colored 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa boasts an exceptional nose of crème de cassis, minerals, and spice. It takes at least a decade for wines such as this to begin to reveal more identity and vintage character. The cassis/blackberry liqueur-like fruit are present, as are mouthsearing levels of tannin and impressive extract. This blockbuster should be at its peak between 2010-2040.

Dunn Cabernets are complex and concentrated wines. Winemaker Randy Dunn makes the ultimate Howell Mountain Cabernets; they are intense and tannic wines that have the potential to age 30 years or more. Dunn has been making these characteristic wines since 1979, when he left Caymus to create his own winery.

Bright ruby-red. Wild aromas of blackberry, black cherry, espresso, leather, raw meat, tobacco and mint. Juicy, sweet and plump, with intense but rather rustic flavors. Finishes with lingering sweet fruit and surprisingly ripe tannins. Not squeaky-clean but long on personality.

Sharply focused, with a pretty beam of plum, currant and black cherry flavors, framed by spicy, cedary oak and finishing with dry tannins. Best from 2002 through 2012.
