Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 1999
Notes on the Dunn Vineyards Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 93 Pts W. S. : WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: 93 POINTS Dark and intense, with a tight, compact, tightly wound band of earth, anise, leather, game meat, currant and blackberry, revealing layers of complexity and concentration before the tannins and cedary oak clamp down. Best from 2005 through 2014. 2,000 cases made. November 15, 2002 JLWINE ADVOCATE REVIEW: 90-93 POINTS Dunn's normal policy is to select the Napa Cabernet Sauvignon from his barrels right before bottling. Hence what I tasted was a trial blend of this wine. This year produced extremely small crops characterized by extremely cool growing seasons as well as unusually late harvests. Dunn dropped 30% of the crop in order to guarantee ripeness in his vineyard. There is no astringent tannin or vegetal characteristic to be found in this full-bodied, powerful Cabernet Sauvignon. Editorial Reviews for Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
Smoky and deep on the nose with alot of oak showing but lots of muscular, extracted fruit too. This is super TIGHT in the mouth with big structure showing excellent balance but this is all about potential at this point so I'll give it a conservative 90pts with the warning not to touch this for another 5 years at bare minimum!
Wonderful deep crimson color with purple tinged edges. The nose was restrained with some dark cherries and currant, while showing a little ripeness. Upon entering the mouth this wine was beautifully integrated with some secondary notes of tar and cedar. All the dark fruits were present. A great seamless tannin level had delivered this nicely to age 8. A smooth even finish completed the package. This had shown very nicely considering the reputation Dunn Howell has received for being a 20 year wine.Enjoy one if you have any.

A dense, chewy, muscular wine marked by pencil lead, currant, cedar, mineral, iodine and dill flavors. Tightly wound and immense, and sufficiently tannic to cellar for up to a decade. Best from 2005 through 2012. 2,000 cases made. -JL Wine Spectator. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 1999 Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 750ml

Bright ruby-red. Wild aromas of blackberry, black cherry, espresso, leather, raw meat, tobacco and mint. Juicy, sweet and plump, with intense but rather rustic flavors. Finishes with lingering sweet fruit and surprisingly ripe tannins. Not squeaky-cl... Stephen Tanzer's IWC.
