Dumol Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Estate 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

Floral, fruit, and savory aromas: rose petal, black cherry, blackberry, and thyme. Darker licorice, Asian spice, and tangy orange zest notes flicker and fade. There is a wonderful vineyard purity with tightly entwined aromas and flavors. Broad generous palate with deep texture and building volume. Lively acidity and rising tannins bring balance and definition. Long mineral finish with lingering blackcurrant flavors. As one would expect, our finest vineyard has produced the most age worthy Pinot Noir of the vintage. As pure an expression of our Estate Vineyard produced thus far. Cool temperatures during the May bloom cycle reduced vine yields at our Estate by over 50%, giving this wine an effortless level of concentration and extract. But it's not all upfront richness; there's a clarity to the wine that elevates it and displays a vivid, lilting fruit quality -- the hallmark of the vintage. It's the vineyard's core character, its signature, that really drives the wine, clearly defined, pure and complex with lovely spicy intensity. Long, lingering extended arc of flavor and inherent structure hint at its long life ahead; it will age beautifully over the next ten to fifteen years. I recommend decanting for an hour if possible. Barrel aged 16 months in 50% new French oak. 650 cases produced. Not yet reviewed; 2014 vintage rated 95 points by Antonio Galloni (Vinous).

Vintage: 2010 11/04/2014

Picking a favorite from the current DuMOL bunch is no easy task but this stunning wine vies for top honors by dint of its amazing depth. It manages to be both very rich and refined at one and the same time and from first sniff to finish it presents a wealth of juicy young fruit juxtaposed with creamy oak and root-beer-like spice. It never gives in to simple sweetness but is instead a serious many-layered wine of immense richness and savor and it has the structure and stamina of one that will age famously for a good many years. More backward than the 2010 Pinot Noir Finn the 2010 Pinot Noir DuMol Estate exhibits notes of strawberry and cherry jam a floral and damp composty foresty character medium to full body and a deep rich moderately tannic style. It will benefit from another 6-12 months of bottle age and should drink well for at least a decade. 93+ - Robert Parker Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Tightly wound with touches of spicy cherry raspberry fresh earth and cigar box. Complete balanced and clean on the finish. Drink now through 2020. -JL Wine Spectator.
