A very 'proud' wine. Not arrogant, but in the mouth, let's you know that it has arrived. A perfect blend of power and elegance, depth and nuance, adagio and crescendo. A stunning wine.

A delightful Pinot that can enchant my friends who are hardcore Cab drinkers. It is rich and complex but melts deliciously on the back of your tongue. It's a perfect combo of rock star and librarian.

Russian River Valley, CaliforniaVERY LIMITED! DuMOL Pinot Noir is a superb Pinot Noir wine gem from 7 top vineyards in the Russian River Valley. Winemaker Andy Smith is one of the most gifted and charismatic of a new generation of sophisticated Chardonnay and Pinot Noir specialists. Andy's stock-in-trade is intense Burgundian Chardonnays -- offering deep, mineral flavor with great texture and wonderful balance -- and Pinot Noirs of uncommon depth and complexity. Part of the secret is his winemaking regimen, which includes extended fermentations to enhance aromatics; elevage with a high percentage of solids, but with limited lees stirring; and no fining or filtration. But the real keys to the transcendent quality of DuMOL's wines are Andy's gift for blending sites, clones, and maturity levels to achieve chromatic diversity ... and, of course, the fruit, which is farmed under his control in Green Valley, the coolest part of the Russian River Valley. Only 3770 cases produced.DuMOL Pinot Noir is bright garnet red with beautifully pure aromas of ripe red cherry then darker wild berry with a subtle grassy rhubarb edge. It opens with cranberry freshness and intense raspberry then deeper kirsch notes with a licorice/sassafras edge. The wine has a supple mid-palate that is harmonious and remains focused and lively despite the building richness. Complex savory elements build toward a spicy/peppery finish. It was aged 11 months in 40% new French oak barrels then 3 months settling in tank. Serve at 60 degrees to fully experience the wine's deft balance of freshness and richness.Enjoy DuMOL Pinot Noir Russian River Valley with roast pork, grilled salmon, veal Milanese and aged cheeses.

Rating: 91/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Yet another superb bottling from this outstanding producer, its Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is compact and concentrated but is not the least bit overdone. It is fairly full in body, is supple and somewhat open in feel and has more than a little stuffing. While some may regard it as less than classic Russian River Pinot, others will appreciate that it is accessible now, deep and nicely complex in a manner that invites near-term drinking. It can age a bit as well and is sure to reward now or later.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Medium dark ruby red; delicate spring flower aromas deepen to violet, allspice and a note of tea leaf. Bright crunchy red fruits open the palate then darken to black raspberry, ripe plum and black cherry. Great purity of Pinot fruit with some richer gamey notes and a spicy sassafras edge. Intense flush of dark fruit on the chewy and flavor-packed extended finish. Beautifully combines concentration and elegance in this naturally forward vintage. Drink on release for its lovely freshness or cellar for 6 to 8 years for increasing richness.

The 2006 Pinot Noir Russian River is a sensual wine showing floral notes intermixed with sassafras, meat, and black cherry and strawberry fruit. It is medium ruby in color, ripe, and best drunk over the next 5-7 years.

Winemaker's Notes:

Bright ruby red. Warm, inviting aromas draw you in: bright and lively then dark and complex. Wild cherry, fresh raspberry, sassafras and grilled meat. Complex tobacco and cocoa notes. Juicy palate entry then a fine interplay between red and black fruits. Black tea, cranberry and apple skin tartness. Darker woodsy-truffle notes. Broad silky texture develops with air but always framed by muscular enveloping tannins. Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 92 points by California Grapevine.
