Dumol Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

94 points Robert Parker: The 2007 Chardonnay Chloe (1,200 cases) comes primarily from the Ritchie Vineyard with a small percentage from the Dutton-Morelli Vineyard. Its light straw/green color is followed by aromas of crushed rocks, citrus, poached pears, and baked apple-like spices offered in a rich, full-bodied, structured style. Still young and reserved, it may merit an even higher score with another year of bottle age, and should last for a decade. (Feb 2010)

A blend of different vineyards, their 2007 Chardonnay Russian River might turn out to be one of the best Chardonnays they have made under this moniker. Crisp acids, beautiful lemon butter notes intermixed with brioche and orange/nectarine notes are all present in this full-bodied wine, with the oak pushed well into the background. This is a beauty that should drink nicely for 3-4 years.

Subtle aromas of orange blossom, spices, flint and nuts; rather Meursault-like. Then dense and thick but bright, with harmonious acidity framing the concentrated fruit. Finishes suave and persistent.

The quality jumps dramatically with the 2002 Chardonnay (2,600 cases). Its light greenish/straw color is accompanied by a big, rich nose of orange marmalade intermixed with citrus oil, pineapple, and smoke. Medium to full-bodied and rich, with an enticing texture, admirable purity, and a long finish, it should be consumed over the next 2ndash;3 years.

The 2005 Chardonnay Chloe comes from the well-known Ritchie Vineyard, the source for some unbelievable Chardonnays in California, and it makes a nice contrast to the Isobel, which comes from the Heintz Vineyard, or the Clare, which comes from the Hyde Vineyard. This is a sensational Chardonnay with great minerality, a light greenish-hued gold color, and a stunning nose of orange blossoms, guava, nectarine, honeysuckle, and lemon oil. The wine displays white currant and floral notes, super full body, and superb structure due to the acidity levels. This is fabulous Chardonnay that should drink nicely over the next 5ndash;6 years.

Intense and concentrated, with rich fig, mineral, green pineapple and spice flavors that are a bit raw in texture. Picks up depth and complexity on the finish, with a hint of melon and butterscotch. Best from 2008 through 2012.
