Notably rich and expansive, the layers of fruit and subtle oak complexity keep unfolding, revealing tiers of ripe fig, pear, apricot, melon and spice nuances. Hazelnut-scented oak joins in on the finish.

A blend of different vineyards, their 2007 Chardonnay Russian River might turn out to be one of the best Chardonnays they have made under this moniker. The 2002 Chardonnay Russian River exhibits elegant notes of hazlenuts, buttred fruit, and brioche as well as a leesy complexity in a medium to full-bodied, layered, superbly endowed format. It represents a wonderful introduction to the complex Burgundian style of DuMol.

Each of Dumol's new Chardonnays conveys both a full measure of well-ripened fruit and lots of very rich oak, and each and every one of them is a noteworthy wine of the highest pedigree. Intense and concentrated, with rich fig, mineral, green pineapple and spice flavors that are a bit raw in texture. Picks up depth and complexity on the finish, with a hint of melon and butterscotch. Best from 2008 through 2012.

Subtle aromas of orange blossom, spices, flint and nuts; rather Meursault-like. Then dense and thick but bright, with harmonious acidity framing the concentrated fruit. Finishes suave and persistent.

Winemaker's Notes:

94 points Robert Parker: The 2007 Chardonnay Chloe (1,200 cases) comes primarily from the Ritchie Vineyard with a small percentage from the Dutton-Morelli Vineyard. Its light straw/green color is followed by aromas of crushed rocks, citrus, poached pears, and baked apple-like spices offered in a rich, full-bodied, structured style. Still young and reserved, it may merit an even higher score with another year of bottle age, and should last for a decade. (Feb 2010)
