Moist soil rich in clay greets the nose along with notes of charry wood, cinnamon, and beefy. This is a bit sweet and soft in the mouth with a hard currant, candied fruit edge that’s a touch diffuse but really quite balanced with nice inner mouth tension and a seductive feel. The finish shows a touch darker with a lovely black cherry finale. 90pts

Records of the Branaire-Ducru estate go back to the 17th century and the château was classified a fourth top growth in 1855. Château Branaire-Ducru currently has fifty hectares of vines, mostly old Cabernet Sauvignon, located in the commune of Saint-Julien.The wine is outstandingly elegant, with a highly individual flavour typical of the finest that its prestigious appellation can offer. Since 1991, the wine has been made in a state-of-the-art vatroom using gravity flow. This enables the grapes to be handled with the utmost care in order to bring out the pure taste that expresses the quality of the vineyard. The wine is château-bottled after traditional ageing in oak barrels. Branaire-Ducru has a second wine, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, which is primarily made from young vines.
Sweet black raspberry and blueberry fruit intermixed with hints of acacia flowers and crushed rocks always provide Branaire with a distinctive perfume. Dark and winey, with mouthfilling crushed currant and plum fruit pushed by even more fig paste and linzer torte notes.
