Editorial Reviews for Duckhorn Vineyards Red Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley Decoy
Really beautiful top note of pale cigar wrapper, a coy nose, lots of lurking fruit, red raspberry, mocha, hazelnut nougat, smoke, oak, spice and a touch of herb. Big and layered with some airy space between the shell and core of this wine. Quite youthful, a nice silky feel to the tannins, the fruit is prominent but nicely ripe and with deep red currant and dried strawberry tones. A bit of wood tannin rasps across the midpalate a bit and the alcohol it a touch high but the slightly creamy, oak tinged fruit remains fresh. The finish is a bit of a let down as there’s not much length or development and the oaky turns a bit raw. In a year or two this should be at a better place but this still is a nicely proportioned Napa Meritage. 91pts
Opens with a nose full of warm spice and ripe blackberries, attacks with bright red fruit and refreshing acidity, mellows into cola and finishes on chocolate.
Party wine. This is not complicated stuff, just a well put together blend. A real crowd pleaser. It's a bit expensive, but this is definitely a step above many red blends.
Nose of pine resin, moss and forest floor. Smooth in the mouth with soft tannins at first, which build over time. Intense fruit, with black cherry, blackberry and date flavors. Finishes on firmer tannins with licorice and anise notes.
Very dry and witty, it bristles with confidence and leaves your tongue lashing for more. The tannins are strong and there is much complexity on the palate, with honey, floral, and herbal notes.
This is curently a little out of balance. Very tanic / astringent. Should improve with some time. Tasted at Geneva wine tasting 4/18/2010.
Simply put...magnificent wine! Supple fruit on a sturdy frame. Everything in perfect balance! - Tasted at winery 4/18/10
A pleasant meritage wine from Duckhorn. Ripe berry and cassis. A hint of spicy white pepper. - Tasted at Total Wine & More 3/28/10

A tremendous Merlot, Duckhorn's greatest since the 2005 and one of their best ever, over many years of crafting this wine. Feels soft and smooth and yet dusty and tannic all at once, while the flavors, of red and black cherries, blackberries, licoric... Wine Enthusiast. A Merlot wine from California in USA. 2007 Duckhorn Merlot Three Palms Vineyard 750ml
Duckhorn established this style of Napa Valley merlot years ago - soft, majestic, red-fruited wine. This vintage is rich in texture, bold in its floral scents of jasmine and strawberries. The oak flavors of the finish will meld into roast beef.
Good dark red. Currant, plum, mocha and chocolatey oak on the nose, with hints of menthol and exotic. Supple currant and menthol flavors offer a nice sugar/acid balance but also betray a slightly roasted character. A moderately dense merlot that finishes a tad green.
Bright ruby-red. Exotic black cherry, dark chocolate, menthol, mint and truffle on the nose. Sweet, lush and pliant, with flavors of currant, chocolate, truffle, smoke, earth and oak. finishes with dusty, slightly dry-edged but ripe tannins and a suggestion of tarry oak.
Pleasantly balanced, with ripe currant, plum and black cherry fruit, revealing depth and concentration, with a long, rich, earthy aftertaste. Best from 2004 through 2010.
As usual with Duckhorn's red wines, this Merlot is more tannic and acidic than most anything coming from Napa Valley. They're emphasizing structure over decadence. But that's not to say there aren't rich, elaborate berry, cherry, currant, chocolate and cedar flavors that provide bang for the buck. Very elegant and refined, this Merlot should be decanted before serving.

The product of a near-perfect growing season, this is one of the most complex and mouthfilling renditions of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to date. Blended to showcase the rich diversity of great Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings together grapes from some of the valley’s most acclaimed winegrowing appellations and includes a mix of mountain and valley floor fruit. Aromas of ripe currant, spearmint, marzipan and tobacco lead to intense flavors of blackberry and black cherry, all supported by a subtle framework of French oak, which adds nuance, depth and dimension to the finish.
