Really beautiful top note of pale cigar wrapper, a coy nose, lots of lurking fruit, red raspberry, mocha, hazelnut nougat, smoke, oak, spice and a touch of herb. Big and layered with some airy space between the shell and core of this wine. Quite youthful, a nice silky feel to the tannins, the fruit is prominent but nicely ripe and with deep red currant and dried strawberry tones. A bit of wood tannin rasps across the midpalate a bit and the alcohol it a touch high but the slightly creamy, oak tinged fruit remains fresh. The finish is a bit of a let down as there’s not much length or development and the oaky turns a bit raw. In a year or two this should be at a better place but this still is a nicely proportioned Napa Meritage. 91pts

Party wine. This is not complicated stuff, just a well put together blend. A real crowd pleaser. It's a bit expensive, but this is definitely a step above many red blends.

Nose of pine resin, moss and forest floor. Smooth in the mouth with soft tannins at first, which build over time. Intense fruit, with black cherry, blackberry and date flavors. Finishes on firmer tannins with licorice and anise notes.

Very dry and witty, it bristles with confidence and leaves your tongue lashing for more. The tannins are strong and there is much complexity on the palate, with honey, floral, and herbal notes.

Medium dark ruby color; rich, appealing, berry, blackberry nose; tasty, ripe blackberry, berry palate; medium-plus finish. (89% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot; 16 mos. in 100% French oak, 35% new, 65% second vintage; 14.5% alcohol) 92 points

This is curently a little out of balance. Very tanic / astringent. Should improve with some time. Tasted at Geneva wine tasting 4/18/2010.

Duckhorn's Estate Grown wines are blended using the best lots of our Estate ranches. In any given harvest we have 30 or more separate lots of Estate wine. With our estate vineyards, we harvest the grapes at natural maturity, going through some vineyard sites several times, picking only the ripe fruit with each pass. The final blend for our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is approachable in its youth, with a soft texture and notable finesse, but also has the strength to carry forward for a decade or longer.

Astringently tannic, as Duckhorn's new red wines tend to be, but very rich, very ripe, and sweet enough in fruit and oak to drink now with a nice steak. Floods the mouth with blackberries, cassis, chocolate, violets, mushu plum sauce, licorice and cedar. Best now through 2012.

Good deep red-ruby. Dark berries, sweet oak and a minty nuance on the nose. Suave and fine-grained, with slightly edgy but essentially supple flavors of redcurrant, mocha, graphite and oak. Finishes with substantial fine, dusty tannins and good length.
