Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot Napa Valley Estate Grown 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Our Napa Merlot is blended to show off the complexity and balance of a young wine. This vintage is a full-bodied wine with a lush entry, refined tannins, and an elegant finish. The aroma is sweet with toffee, dark chocolate, blackberry pie, and black cherry complemented by dried herbs, cedar and vanilla. The flavors in the mouth are ripe plum, strawberry jam, toasted oak, and caramel, accented by a lingering finish.

Solid Cabernet from Duckhorn. No way it's worth $200 (as suggested here). Price is more like $79.00..

Full ruby color with just a tinge of garnet at the edges, aromas of black fruits and plum-to-prune but with drier restraint and quite prominent tannins. Perhaps we made the mistake of drinking it without (or rather after) food, but it seemed a little emptier and less opulent than I anticipated. Wine could vary from case to case but the bottles we sampled would not hold up another ten to fifteen years and I'd recommend drinking before about 2015.

Supple and graceful, with ripe plum, black cherry, sage and herbal notes, it's well-crafted, with firm, dense, integrated tannins that veer to dryness. Best from 2005 through 2012. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 5,026 cases made. (JL) Wine Spectator. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2001 Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml

...Very ripe aromas of currant, chocolate and tarry oak. Rich, juicy and aromatic, with varietally accurate flavors of currant, chocolate and tobacco leaf. Well-made cabernet, with good lift in the mouth. Finishes spicy, ripely tannic and fresh. Stephen Tanzer's IWC. Blackberry, white chocolate, flowery violets, toast, licorice and vanilla are just some of the notes that tickle the palate in this complex, oaky wine. Graceful, delicious, complex and drinkable. Super-oaky, with vanilla, toast and wood spice, but the massive cherry and blackberry fruit easily absorbs it. The saturated ruby/purple-hued 2001 Merlot Three Palms Vineyard (2 073 cases) exhibits graphite as well as vanillin from new oak. Backward and structured it is an impressively endowed pure well-delineated effort that will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and should drink well for 12-15. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Duckhorn Cabernet 2005 is Sold Out! Here's another incredible Duckhorn Wine Deal!! A rare and special treat, here is a Duckhorn Merlot from the spectacular 2001 Vintage. On release Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 92 points and said "Blackberry, white chocolate, flowery violets, toast, licorice and vanilla are just some of the notes that tickle the palate in this complex, oaky wine. For all of its mass, it never loses a sense of harmony and balance. Richly tannic now, and smooth as velvet.” Very Limited!!
