Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot Howell Mountain 1999
The aroma of this intense wine is complex with floral notes, cassis, dried herbs, tobacco, honey, and spice. This mountain Merlot is rich and chewy with great density and flavors of cherry, blackberry, chocolate, cedar and white pepper. The tannins are rich and smooth, followed by the long full flavors of chocolate and sweet fruit on the finish. This wine will continue to develop for at least a decade.
Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent a quarter century establishing itself as one of North America's premier producers of Bordeaux varietal wines. From its modest inaugural vintage of 800 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and 800 cases of Merlot in 1978, to its addition of Sauvignon Blanc in 1982, Duckhorn Vineyards has crafted a tradition of quality and excellence that continues today.
Great bright nose, beautiful defining representation of Napa Merlot. Fruit forward with a spicy finish. Beautiful - so good that i went out and bought a bottle. Tasted at the New York Wine Experience

92 Points - Wine Advocate: Well-focused on a center of ripe currant, plum and blackberry, with hints of clayish earth, lead pencil, mocha and anise folded in, giving it added flavor dimension and a long, detailed aftertaste thats a cut above most Merlots. Ample tannins for cellaring.
