Duckhorn Paraduxx Z Red Blend 2011
"The aromas are complex and inviting, with lifted red fruit elements of raspberry and plum, as well as deeper bramble fruit notes and layers of vanilla, cream, nutmeg and cinnamon. A smooth, rich entry leads to sweet plum and lingering spice notes, with hints of cedar and clove. The wine's lush texture is supported by resolved tannins that lead to a full, ripe finish." -Winery

Not just an entrepreneur but a true visionary, Dan Duckhorn was the first Napa winemaker to see the potential for Merlot as not just something to blend with Cabernet but as the primary grape in a great Napa Valley wine. He founded his winery on that premise and the rest is history. No other Merlot from California has achieved the success, the accolades or the following that Duckhorn enjoys. The wines are always highly allocated and snapped up by legions of loving admirers. This 2011 is a blend of 83% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Petit Verdot, 2.5% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. Wine Review Online scored it 93 and Connoisseurs Guide scored it 90 saying "If at first a little tight in the nose and only grudgingly allowing a bit of sweet oak, cherries and herbs to peek out, this well-endowed wine is not at all restrained in its broad and decidedly juicy flavors of very well-ripened Merlot fruit. It is at this point more solid than it is succulent in nature, but, make no mistake, this is a deep and solidly built wine that comes with the guarantee of a complex and stylish future."
Magnum, 1.5Liter Probably the most famous and celebrated Merlot that Napa Valley produces, Duckhorn Three Palms Vineyard is a true testament to the quality and character that Merlot can achieves in this ideal microclimate. This 2011 is a blend of 87% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc aged in 51% New French oak barrels for 24 months. Wine Review online scored it 97 points saying "The 2011 vintage was unusually cool for Napa, which resulted in a spectacular Three Palms Merlot. Wonderfully aromatic, it’s a firm, young wine, with a riveting tension between fruitiness and herbal qualities. The tannins are fine, not aggressive, and provide perfect structure and balance. It expands it the glass, with layers of herbal earthy nuances, not just fruit flavors. Indeed, it’s the non-fruit elements that set this wine apart. This tightly wound wine, which stops you in your tracts now, should evolve beautifully over the next decade, so there’s no rush to pull the cork."
Lush and enticing with aromas that strike an appealing balance between vibrant cranberry and deeper, dark berry notes, with sophisticated hints of white pepper and forest floor. The palate is rich and beautifully structured, offering a lush core of dark, ripe fruit wrapped in smooth, firmly textured tannins.
