Editorial Reviews for Duckhorn Paraduxx Red Blend United States Premier
Really beautiful top note of pale cigar wrapper, a coy nose, lots of lurking fruit, red raspberry, mocha, hazelnut nougat, smoke, oak, spice and a touch of herb. Big and layered with some airy space between the shell and core of this wine. Quite youthful, a nice silky feel to the tannins, the fruit is prominent but nicely ripe and with deep red currant and dried strawberry tones. A bit of wood tannin rasps across the midpalate a bit and the alcohol it a touch high but the slightly creamy, oak tinged fruit remains fresh. The finish is a bit of a let down as there’s not much length or development and the oaky turns a bit raw. In a year or two this should be at a better place but this still is a nicely proportioned Napa Meritage. 91pts
Opens with a nose full of warm spice and ripe blackberries, attacks with bright red fruit and refreshing acidity, mellows into cola and finishes on chocolate.
Party wine. This is not complicated stuff, just a well put together blend. A real crowd pleaser. It's a bit expensive, but this is definitely a step above many red blends.
Nose of pine resin, moss and forest floor. Smooth in the mouth with soft tannins at first, which build over time. Intense fruit, with black cherry, blackberry and date flavors. Finishes on firmer tannins with licorice and anise notes.
Very dry and witty, it bristles with confidence and leaves your tongue lashing for more. The tannins are strong and there is much complexity on the palate, with honey, floral, and herbal notes.
This is curently a little out of balance. Very tanic / astringent. Should improve with some time. Tasted at Geneva wine tasting 4/18/2010.
I first fell in love with Duckhorn over their merlot and this vintage is a reminder of why. Soft, supple and yet rich and complex. Hints of mint and eucalyptus accent a deep rich core of cherry and dark berries. - Tasted at Total Wine & More 3/28/10
Simply put...magnificent wine! Supple fruit on a sturdy frame. Everything in perfect balance! - Tasted at winery 4/18/10

A tremendous Merlot, Duckhorn's greatest since the 2005 and one of their best ever, over many years of crafting this wine. Feels soft and smooth and yet dusty and tannic all at once, while the flavors, of red and black cherries, blackberries, licoric... Wine Enthusiast. A Merlot wine from California in USA. 2007 Duckhorn Merlot Three Palms Vineyard 750ml
When Duckhorn Vineyards decided to create a Napa Bordeaux Blend they launched Decoy, and for 20 years Decoy has been pleasing the palates of Duckhorn fans for its distinctive style, its first rate quality and most of all, its appealing price tag. Under $30 for this Napa Valley blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petite Verdot aged 16 Months if French Bordeaux barrels is very attractive indeed. This 2007 was rated 91 points by Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said "Mainly Cabernet and Merlot, this is a dry, full-bodied wine that shows considerable sophistication and elegance. Fruit aficionados will find a wealth of blackberries, cherries and cocoa, while structuralists will like the firm tannins and acids. Quite good now and for quite a few years."
A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2007 Decoy (Duckhorn) Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
As usual with Duckhornrsquo;s red wines, this Merlot is more tannic and acidic than most anything coming from Napa Valley. Theyrsquo;re emphasizing structure over decadence. But thatrsquo;s not to say there arenrsquo;t rich, elaborate berry, cherry, currant, chocolate and cedar flavors that provide bang for the buck. Very elegant and refined, this Merlot should be decanted before serving.
Deep garnet-purple colour. Warm plum and blackberry aromas on the nose with a touch of dark chocolate, cloves and vanilla. Full body, medium to high acid and lots of blackberry and spice flavour. Soft to medium level of velvety tannins. Long finish going a bit earthy. Tasted July 2009.
On the palate, layers of fig, red currant, almond, cedar and sweet spice are revealed, along with a subtle doughiness that lends to an appealing mouthfeel. The final wine has been blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Petit Verdot to add nuance and depth.
Paraduxx is a bold and expressive Napa Valley Red Wine. Fusing the robust flavors of Californias native Zinfandel with the grandeur of Cabernet Sauvignon, Paraduxx embraces the best of both core varietals. This benchmark blend has developed its own compelling personality filled with enticing layers of lush fruit and engaging aromatics, allowing it to mix naturally with great food and dynamic company.
The product of a near-perfect growing season, this is one of the most complex and mouthfilling renditions of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to date. Blended to showcase the rich diversity of great Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings together grapes from some of the valley’s most acclaimed winegrowing appellations and includes a mix of mountain and valley floor fruit. Aromas of ripe currant, spearmint, marzipan and tobacco lead to intense flavors of blackberry and black cherry, all supported by a subtle framework of French oak, which adds nuance, depth and dimension to the finish.
