Duckhorn Paraduxx Premier 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine displays all of the benefits of slow, even ripening during a mild growing season. Though there is fullness and a lush character to this Merlot, there is also restraint and elegance. Promising aromas of cherry, red plum, raspberry, and dried herbs lead to a clean fresh entry with impeccably balanced acidity supporting intense red fruit flavors of cranberry, plum and raspberry. Round, supple tannins provide an enticing framework for the flavors and contribute to a lingering finish.

Duckhorn Vineyards:
Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent a quarter century establishing itself as one of North America's premier producers of Bordeaux varietal wines. From its modest inaugural vintage of 800 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and 800 cases of Merlot in 1978, to its addition of Sauvignon Blanc in 1982, Duckhorn Vineyards has crafted a tradition of quality and excellence that continues today.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Medium dark ruby color; French oak, vanilla, berry, black fruit, sweet coffee nose; rich, ripe black fruit, berry, espresso palate; medium-plus finish. (84% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc; 16 mos. in 100% French oak, 20% new, 80% second vintage; 14.5% alcohol) 92 points

Very few vineyards do Merlot as good as Duckhorn. Another fantastic year here! Soft and supple with wonderful structure. It comes alive in the glass after a short period of time. Very rounded with wonderful dark fruit accents on the mid and back end! Sideways has no clue...Drink a Duckhorn Merlot, and then we can talk! LOL! Cheers!

A lovely Merlot, this is pure, vibrant and elegant. It has classic cherry, red-currant and cedar flavors, and while there’s a sweetness at the core, the finish is thoroughly dry. Wonderful to drink now with steak or lamb.

t is rich and appealing with fragrant, lifted aromas of mulberry, raspberry and currant with hints of rhubarb and mocha. The soft-toned fruit flavors dominate the plush and inviting palate with engaging spice complexity. This supple and approachable wine has a lingering finish framed by structured tannins.

The 2009 Red Wine is a smoother, less intense wine. It is full bodied, moderately rich, and very well balanced, with complex aromas/flavors (black currant, toast, vanilla, red licorice), and a medium long finish. Restaurant Wine. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2009 Decoy (Duckhorn) Red Blend 750ml

Aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, cigar box, toffee and mint lead to fresh dark berry and red currant flavors and hints of dried herbs. The palate is soft and inviting, and the finish offers lingering notes of fruit, caramel and almond.

For years now Duckhorn Vineyards has produced a Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend under the Decoy label, and Duckhorn fans have enjoyed its distinctive forward style and its first rate quality at a great price. Well the people at Duckhorn knew a good thing when they saw it, and they expanded the Decoy line into varietal wines like this lush Cabernet Sauvignon. Accessing prime grapes from vineyards throughout the Napa Valley they've created this value Cab that's pure Napa and drinking beautifully right now. Of course they blended in 18% Merlot (it is Duckhorn after all) and aged it in French oak for 12 months. All for Under $25. Don't Miss It!

The third vintage of the exciting new Decoy Cabernet from the renowned Duckhorn is here! Like all the grapes used to make wines in the Duckhorn Wine Company portfolio, fruit for the Decoy program comes from a mix of Estate vineyards and top independent growers. Reflecting the character of each growing season, the Decoy Napa Valley Cabernet is made to be opened and enjoyed upon release. It is rich and appealing with fragrant, lifted aromas of mulberry, raspberry and currant with hints of rhubarb and mocha. The soft-toned fruit flavors dominate the plush and inviting palate with engaging spice complexity. This supple and approachable wine has a lingering finish framed by structured tannins.
