Duck Walk Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Long Island Reserve 2007

Member Review by Cheap Wine Critic:

I first tasted the 2007 Duck Walk Reserve Cab at a North Fork wine tour in the Spring of 2012. Impressed by its big and bold yet soft and smooth flavor profile, I bought two bottles to save for a special occasion. Sometimes my judgment becomes clouded after sampling a dozen or so wines, but not this time. Right out of the bottle, this wine delivered on all of its prior promises. The nose brings the sort of ripe red fruit one expects from a solid Cabernet but with a certain visceral quality as if you can feel its velvety strength emanating from the glass. This sexy Cab delivers big black cherry flavors with just a hint of spice draped in decadently soft tannins. In my experience, reds this smooth often suffer from a sort of flabby dullness that leaves one not quite satisfied, but this wine finishes with just enough acidity and tartness to sustain a formidable blend of verve and vigor. The best Long Island wine I have had to date, my only regret is gifting the other bottle to a friend who I can't say for certain will appreciate it as much as I do.

Wine has enchanted poets for centuries, and for good reason: like poetry, good wine can be an emotional experience, lifting the spirit and delighting the senses as it satisfies the soul. At Duck Walk Vineyards, our award-winning wines are quite literally dreams come true. It was the dream of our founder, Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos, that helped create the winemaking industry on Long Island in the early 1980’s. In 1994 he and his son Alexander founded Duck Walk Vineyards. The Normandy Chateau-style building in Water Mill, a true Hamptons landmark, became home to what has quickly evolved into one of the most well-known names in Long Island wine. Duck Walk has two locations – the flagship winery is located in Southampton, New York. In 2007 we have added a new location on the North Fork of Long Island. Surrounded by 30 beautiful acres of Sauvignon Blanc grape vines, Duck Walk North is an ideal location to taste Duck Walk’s renowned wines while visiting Long Island’s famous Wine Trail. Both tasting rooms are beautifully designed and accommodate large parties and everyone who would like to taste our award winning wines! Today Duck Walk Vineyards encompasses 140 scenic acres. We produce some 35,000 cases of wine a year, and our wines have been repeatedly recognized for excellence in national competitions. From our Vidal Ice Wine made with grapes actually frozen on the vine, to our Blueberry Port crafted from wild Maine blueberries, to our unique Pinot Meunier, we strive to create wines that are distinctive and exceptional. But at heart we are still a family with a personal touch in every aspect of our business. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
