Duck Pond Red Blend Wahluke Slope Red Blend 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sweet and a touch candied on the nose with blackberry and violet top notes, along with a nicely integrated base of smoky oak. Rich on entry, this has a creamy edge leading to bright, rather crystalline red and blue fruits on the mid-palate. The oak is well integrated, adding a nice creamy chocolate edge but remaining balanced right through the modest finish. The finish really does drop off here, though the easy drinking appeal of this wine is undeniable. 87pts

Fairly oak at first sniff but lurking under the veneer of wood lies some attractive herbal notes and spicy, fresh black fruits. Bright and rather taut on entry with lovely black plum skin fruit that plays off the nuanced oak spice of the palate. Blackberries and black currants join in on the mid-palate with some dusty cinnamon notes, and a feathery edge of dried herbs all lead to a moderately long, lightly spicy and freshly fruited finish that shows a touch of heat. A bit unusual but a lovely combination of fruit and strictness in the mouth. 88pts

Nice toasted marshmallow aroma, with pumpkin and cloves. Ripe apple/banana fruit. The mouth is very smooth, nice pear fruit in the middle, and decent length. Hard not to like this one!

Deep, dark fruits with a cassis sweetness and some dark chocolate. Subtle oak with enough earth to round out the sweetness. Very sippable and I'm guessing pretty awesome at a cookout.
