Duchman Family Winery Aglianico 2009

Member Review by tabednar:

First wine I have had from this interesting grape variety and odd enough I had from a Texas vine and not from Italy. I am not sure if this is representative of a true Aglianico but it certainly was unique. Somewhat similar to a malbec in aroma with hints of earth and leather. Oak barreling adds a nice roundness to this wine. Dry, brisk finish. -Tasting Room 4.8.2011

The Duchman Family Winery is a small, family-owned winery located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country outside of Austin. The winery is the realization of a dream for entrepreneurs and wine enthusiasts, Drs. Stan & Lisa Duchman, to create a Texas-based and Italian-influenced winery in the Central Texas Hill Country. Winemakers Mark Penna and Dave Reilly have consistently produced higher-quality, award-winning wines since our first vintage in 2004. The winery has a beautiful tasting area for guests to sample all of the varietals as well as an events center for hosting special occasions. Located in the tiny town of Driftwood, Texas, the winery is home to the grape varieties: Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Nero d’Avola, Aglianico, Moscato, and Vermentino. Using all Texas grown grapes, sourced locally and from the Texas High Plains AVA, our goal is to produce food-friendly wines to be shared with friends and family. With an eye on the future, we continue to develop innovative winemaking and grape-growing techniques in order to provide wine that truly reflects a taste of Texas for years to come. With over 200 wineries in Texas today, the last 10 years have seen exponential growth for the Texas wine industry. The concentration of wineries in Central Texas has made the Hill Country a premier wine destination. We look forward to welcoming you to the Duchman Family Winery. Read less
