Editorial Reviews for Dry Creek Vineyard Red Bordeaux Blend Dry Creek Valley Meritage
Smoky, deep and layered on the nose with dried floral, dried herb and vanilla tones accenting the mulberry and plum fruit. There is an underlay of dirt and high toast wood as well and that gained through the course of the evening turning a bit too green and funky, though by the end of the evening that began to re-integrate. At first this delivered good creamy, red cherry fruit with gentle spice tones and a lovely spicy, lingonberry edge with very polished tannins in an almost elegant package. Tannins pop a bit on the finish and really became quite prominent and gave the wine a muddy feeling. The flavors turned toward coffee liquor tones and gained a lot of clove-y spice. With further airing this regained some of it’s earlier balance and while it has good fruit and length this may not have the balance to age and improve. In any event it is a young and disjointed at the moment 2009-2016 88pts

This wine had a veggie aroma with a musty edge. It was not earthy but moldy. To me the wine had blueberry aroma but no finish, no acidity and was slightly sweet. Probably need time to open up.
A very smokey wine - herbal, mineral with nice vanilla tones. Pretty tannic on the finish. Tasted at the Snooth PTP California Cab blind tasting: http://www.snooth.com/talk/topic/snooth-ptp-california-cabernet

The 2006 Meritage displays classic Bordeaux-style characters of bright cherry, chocolate, and vanilla, perfumed with a wonderful dried floral component. On the palate, the wine is rich and seamless with excellent depth and complexity. Subtle nuances of blueberry and spicy black pepper provide weight and dimension. The finish is elegant and sophisticated with excellent tannin and structure - a wine that lingers on the palate. - Winery
Wine Tasting NotesThe Meritage has wonderful aroma, harmony and intensity. At first swirl, concentrated aromas of cherry-vanilla, rose petal and cassis are abundant. On the palate juicy blackberry, red currant and black cherry notes are well balanced and rich without being overpowering. Ripe and supple tannins finish long and lingering. Additional Bordeaux varietals contribute to this a beautiful wine that will only improve over the next few years.
Wine Tasting NotesThe Mariner exudes exotic aromas of wild cherry, blackberry, and dried roses. After several more minutes in the glass, additional dark fruit characters are revealed. This is a multidimensional wine that is both compelling and provocative. On the palate, the fruit is rich and succulent with bright cherry, dark chocolate, and cassis flavors that intermingle with seamless, well integrated tannins. The finish displays flavors that are harmonious and repeat the theme of balance and finessea wine that truly begs for another sip.
