Dry Creek Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Endeavor 2004

Great color. Crushed red fruit, cassis, violet and anise nose. Big palate with layered smooth fruit. Complex. Great fruit character on finish. Still tight, but great potential here.

Grapes: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot,5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec At first swirl, this wine presents a dark ruby coloraccompanied by purple hues and a sense of texturein the glass. Aromas of black cherry and plum alongwith vanilla and black pepper come forward withadditional time. On the palate, the flavors are complexand balanced with deep blackberry, coffee, and cedaralong with more subtle notes of dark chocolate. Thisfinish brings all of this together with supple tanninsand a long, lingering aftertaste.

Dry Creek Valley is as good for growing Bordeaux varieties as Napa Valley or Sonoma Valley. It just happened to get famous for Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc before it got famous for Cabernet. The region’s reputation will probably change in a generation, though, because of wines like this: a $22 Cabernet that is great when it’s released, has the stuffing to age near-term or long-term, and captures all the good things about the grape in a seamless package at only 13.5% alcohol. The aromas are very attractive, with chocolatey depth in the mix of dark red and black fruit; there’s a bit of chalk read more...for Bordeaux authenticity too. All those qualities come right into the flavors, along with a beautiful blueberry quality that emerges in the mid-palate and remains through the finish. Everything including the tannins and acids are expressed with restraint and elegance, even as the wine expands and fills your chamber with polish and self-assurance.    (hide)

Excellent wine. Chocolatey nose, with a nice balance of fruit and tannin in the mouth. I'd definitely buy again.

Rich and fruity, with rough, disjointed tannins (give it time). There was good structure and I think it will evolve well. Still young, for a wine of that intensity.

The Endeavor! Couldn't really pick up much on this wine. Tasted great though, despite the extreme subtlety (and my young palate).

I really did not understand this wine - i found it closed, muted and dumb. I will admit that it opened up after a couple of hours, and it was one of the preferred wines of others at the tasting, but personally i didnt understand it

Extracted and over the top, but in a very interesting way. I would be very interested to see what this is like in 10 years.
