Full red-ruby. Roasted aromas of game, tar, iris and tobacco. Supple and thick on the palate, with an intriguing smoky/vegetal/autumnal aspect that reminded me of Clos des Lambrays. Comes across as considerably richer than the DRC '97 Grands-Echezeaux, but this also finishes with a slight dry edge.

Like several of the DRC '97s, this has a floral quality to the fruit with good if not great spice and lovely aromatic richness. While this is perfectly pleasant, it is not exceptional with low acidity and at this point, not much complexity either. It is already approachable though there is certainly plenty of time left for this. In sum, a solid but by no means a great effort for either the vintage or this cru.
