Add your reviewPopped and poured. Stunning nose of rich black fruits, asian spices, cola and a spice dust texture. The palate is turning to velvet, with lush cherries, mocha, and truffles. It lacks a little energy on the mid-palate. This isn't the most detailed La Tache, nor do I expect that it will live a long life, but it is just delicious right now.
Obviously, it was an incredible experience to not simply sample this wine, but to enjoy the entire bottle between four people during a very special evening out. It was more like some sort of wine ceremony. Neighboring tables whispered and pointed when the bottle was brought out, and the waiter took unusual care pulling the cork. It was quite a bottle of Burgundy, and I like to think I have had a enough Grand Crus to adequately prepare for the experience. If you love a tooth-staining red monster, don't waste your money on this--buy 50 bottles of (really good) Aussie Shiraz instead. But if you can appreciate a multi-layered, incredibly exotic, palate awakening experience--and have an unusually generous friend like I do--this wine will not disappoint.
restaurant purchase- popped and poured. Awesome nose- violets, cinnamon, nutmeg, plums, tobacco- kept changing as the night wore on. The palate is nowhere near as forthcoming as the nose- it is lean and austere, but opened occasionally to show a wonderful plush texture and a lot more body. I could smell this for hours. I'd say 6-8 years at least.
Consumed at Cru. Gorgeous nose of warm dark fruits and a bit of funk. The palate is rich, silky and explosive- expanding and expanding for what seems like forever. Pure velvet after about 1 hour. This is incredibly sexy stuff- not an intellectual experience, rather a hedonistic one.

Good deep red. Less expressive but still utterly sexy nose offers plum, raspberry, flowers, smoke and earth. Hints at its superb volume but this is quite closed and tightly knit today, and much less expressive and sweet than La Tache. But this superconcentrated wine seemed to gain sweetness with aeration, showing an increasingly fat, seamless texture without any loss of energy as it opened in the glass. Really saturates the palate on the aftertaste, where the tannins are thoroughly buffered by the wine's strong extract and superb depth. 94(+?) points
92 points, Burghound November 2007 Notably ripe, indeed even notes of torrefaction and roast espresso beans that also reflect intense floral aromas precede big, robust, forceful austere black fruit flavors that have slightly drying tannins
Medium red. Aromas of black cherry, currant, tobacco, Oriental spices and nutty oak. Sweeter and thicker than the Echezeaux, with a more floral character. Ripe, harmonious acidity frames and carries the fruit... Stephen Tanzer. A Pinot Noir wine from Burgundy in France. 2000 Romanee Conti, Domaine de la Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru 750ml
Medium red. Ripe, aromatic nose combines plum, redcurrant, tobacco, lead pencil, mint and oak spices. Lush, ripe, smooth and spicy, with fairly full-blown sweetness and texture for this wine. In a gentle, oaky style, with very ripe red fruit flavors. Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Pinot Noir wine from Burgundy in France. 2000 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Echezeaux 750ml
...Pure, complex, perfumed aromas of violet, gunflint, minerals, spices and earth. Sweet but light on its feet, lifted by a note of menthol. Quite youthfully unevolved, but finishes with noteworthy persistence. Tannins are firm and dusty. Stephen Tanzer. Quite deeply colored with the classic La Tâche nose of dried rose petals plus a fantastic array of aromas and spices too numerous to even try to describe that lead to fine, detailed and beautifully textured flavors and terrific length. ...Pure aromas of cassis, violet and minerals. Rich, sweet, suave and penetrating, with lovely mineral character and integrated acidity contributing to an impression of precision.
