Dr. Loosen Riesling 2016

Winemaker's Notes:

The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen (pronounced "loh-zen") assumed ownership in 1988, he realized that with ungrafted vines averaging more than 60 years old in some of Germany's best-rated vineyards, he had the raw materials to create stunningly intense, world-class wines. To achieve this, Ernst dramatically reduced crop size and stopped all chemical fertilization, preferring only moderate use of organic fertilizers. He insisted on fully mature fruit that had been very strictly selected. He also turned to gentler cellar practices that would allow the wines to develop their full potential with a minimum of handling and technological meddling. Ernst's focus is on the clear expression of terroir from each of the distinctive vineyards owned by the estate. All of Dr. Loosen's six major vineyards were designated as "Erste Lage" (equivalent to Grand Cru) in the 1868 Prussian classification of Mosel vineyards. Riesling is an exceptionally versatile wine for food pairing because of its balance of sugar and acidity. It can be paired with cuisines as varied as European, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Asian and Fusion.

Wonderful as always and it's one of my perennial favorites and it's always in my cellar. A perfect sipper for anytime. Green apples, stone fruit and that great Mosel terrior combine with great acidity and schisty minerality to leave you wanting more. 90 points - drink now - Paul

At the restaurant it was $12 per glass. It was the first time having it and it was quite satisfactory although a buy overpriced. Very sweet, not as dry. Will definitely look for this next time when we hit our local winestore. I would recommend this wine.

What a pleasant surprise. It is a great buy in a very pleasant Riesling. Perfect summer every day wine.

The nose is overwhelmingly lemon/lime, but also a subtle stone aroma. There is a bit more residual sugar on the body than the outstanding '08 vintage of this wine, but despite the sweetness, the underlying flavors (same as the nose) are extremely pure. Good acidity and a nice finish. Extremely fresh now, but I think this has the potential to get more elegant with age. At only 8.5% ABV, it's very easy to drink the whole bottle in one sitting

Notes of apple and peach notes are backed by lively acidity.
