In 2010, a wine lover has a wide variety of choices when it comes to buying great wine. With so many choices, I'm always perplexed on my wine buying days. I usually find myself choosing a local wine; it seems I can always find a delicious light red or a stunning, crisp white at a great price. A perennial favorite from one of New York's best (and most famous) wineries, the 2009 Semi-Dry Riesling from Dr. Frank is a contender for Wine of the Year. Offering sweet yet restrained citrus and ripe peach on the nose that melds perfectly with the mouthwatering acidic structure in the mouth, it's the perfect wine with a light meal, or on a cool fall night. In the overcrowded world of mid-priced wines from across the globe, this one steps up to the mic and exclaims, "Uncork New York!"

This is a beautifully balanced, intensely aromatic Riesling. The 2009 vintage has inviting aromas of lemon-lime, melon, peach, guava and vanilla. It is off-dry with a refreshingly crisp acidity with a nice balanced minerality. Notes of tangerine and apricot emerge and linger on the finish. Riesling is a great choice to serve with spicy dishes. Pair it with Szechuan Chicken or Shrimp Pad Thai.

A quiet wine at first, it opens to reveal a lovely balance of peach, citrus and earth tones. This auslese-style Riesling will age well, but why wait? Have it with fresh fish prepared any way you like it mdash; simple or spicy, fried or baked.

With yet another vintage, Konstantin Frank reinforces the prevailing notion that the best riesling in this country is coming from New York State. This semi-dry version is gently perfumed and peachy in aromas, with simple, clean, fresh fruit flavors reflecting those peach aromas touched by a yellow apple broadness. Itrsquo;s not particularly complex, yet it remains pure and positively appealing. An ideal wine for sweetbreads.
