User Reviews for Dr Konstantin Frank Salmon Run Johannisberg Riesling
Add your reviewpeach, pear, citrus fruits with hints of petrol and slatey minerality on the nose. the flavor profile is very aromatic filled with peach, pear, honeydew fruits, a little floral with a mineral and citrus finish, very nice balance of acidity and very much expresses the terroir.
Oily with notes of petrol on the nose. Dry with flavors of white cherry blossom. Medium acidity with a tart finish. Not bad.
Pale lemon color. Youthful nose with a pronounced intensity of perfumed, sweet fruit (peach, apple and even strawberry). Slightly off-dry on the palate this Riesling has perfectly balanced fruit and acidity levels and a complex flavor spectrum of flowers along with more earthy, mineral, almost smokey notes. Medium(+) length.
2007 Dr. Konstantin Frank Semi Dry Riesling This Riesling has caused me to rethink wines from NY. I bought this on a recommendation from a couple I met at a local Wine Bar tasting of California wines (average overall for the price - but that’s another story). We had been talking about German Riesling, particularly those of Stüdert Prüm and they commented that I just had to try this, as it was one of their favorites. A rich straw yellow color and on the nose there are subtle layers of honeysuckle, pear and wet stone. On the palette the sweetness of the honeysuckle persists but not in an overbearing way as fruit flavors of Bartlett pear, apricots, hints of lemon and pronounced minerality blend in harmony. More Bartlett pear, apricots and minerality on the finish. While I wouldn't say this necessarily matches the same level of Stüdert Prüm Rieslings I have had, it definitely is quite delightful in its own right. It did remind me a bit of a 2003 Josef Leitz "Dragonstone" Riesling. If you like good Rieslings I highly recommend you give this one a try! It is a well made wine with a balanced yet interesting personality. Around $13-$15
Date: July 18, 2010 Wine: Riesling Vintage: 2007 Wine Tasters: Jason and Amber Color/Appearance: Very clear, yellow tint. What we expected of this Riesling. Total Score: 5/5 Nose: Very sweet and fruity .. floral aroma and hints of line. I noticed a petrol scent from the wine, something that I've learned happens with Riesling as it ages. Not my preference. Score: 3/5 Mouth: On first sip, it seemed fizzy and sweet, tickles the tongue. Light bodied with mineral flavors and hints of citrus. Not our preference compared to Riesling's we've had. Score: 2/5 Conclusion: I'm told the 2007 year of the Riesling Grape in Finger Lakes wasn't a good year as the season wasn't cool enough. Perhaps this might have played into it, I don't know. Overall, we did not like it. We both looked at each other and said, "That was disappointing". It was our first Dr. Konstantin and everyone in NYC said he had the best Riesling. I don't agree. Someone said this Riesling wasn't for everyone and now I know why. http://www.backyardwinery.net/content/dr-konstantin-frank-dry-riesling-2007
External Reviews for Dr Konstantin Frank Salmon Run Johannisberg Riesling
This dry Riesling, presenting a green gold hue, displays the traditional qualities of Dr. Frank's Riesling: crisp acidity, a pronounced mineral character and layers of mango, citrus and pear blossoms in the nose. Descriptors include apple and pear with a full-bodied taste along with minerality resulting from the slate terroir of the vineyard. The ripeness of the grapes resulted in a great texture with a lingering fruity finish. This wine has great ageing potential. - Winery
From New York's Finger Lakes region, this fragrant white wine has a persistent, flinty white peach flavor and a dry finish. An ideal party sipper that goes with many hors d'oeuvres.
