The quintessential riesling. Light and dry with notes of apples, tropical fruit, honey, and melon.

Nice golden color. Smells overpoweringly sweet. Ultra sweet, green apple, with a hint of acidity.

Tasty, with good focus. A refreshing fennel hint leads the way, backed by ginger, jasmine and yellow apple notes. Lively acidity. Drink now. 3,300 cases made.

A complex bouquet of orange blossom, lavender and pear reveals a vibrant acidity that champions zesty apple, peach and mandarin flavors that are tailored for light spicy foods or a fruit dessert.

The 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling (hyphenated on the back, not on the front) comes in at 28 grams per liter of residual sugar and 12% alcohol. It was primarily sourced from the winery’s Seneca Lake Vineyards. Not quite as interesting as its dry sibling this issue, this still shows very well, fresh, fruity, moderately sweet and very elegant, with some focus on the tasty finish. Drink it now or hold it for a few years. It should do well either way.

It’s always a joy to discover a wine as enjoyable as this is priced so reasonably. Plump white peach and yellow cherry flavors are plush and pure, but braced by an exhilarating stream of lime and lemon zest. Deftly structured, and nuanced by hints of dust and mineral, this is a widely accessible yet deeply satisfying Riesling.

Plump and ripe, this semi-dry riesling has a spiced apple scent and pineapple flavors that last with sweetness. A big white for something spicy, like Numb-Taste Wonton from LA’s Chengdu Taste.

The historic Dr. Konstantin Frank winery has long been a source for consistent, well-priced wines in the Finger Lakes. Pretty on the nose, with delicate floral and stone-fruit aromas, it builds in intensity and power on the palate, with a crush of sweet-tart grapefruit and nectarine flavors. Hints of fresh herb, honeycomb and zippy lemon-lime acidity add nuance and balance to a long finish.

A smokiness at the outset complements bright fruit scents, like passion fruit and Parisian ham. The flavors remain smoky and focused, with a fleshy texture that suggests a pairing with smoked duck sausage.
