Douro Redoma. Niepoort 2014

Member Review by tommyvino:

A field blend consisting of mainly Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, as well as Tinta Amarela, Tinta Fransisca and Sousao from 60 year old predominately north facing vineyards grown in Schist soil. The grapes are hand picked then hand sorted before 50% of the fruit ferments 8 to 10 days in traditional stone lagares where the grapes were crushed by foot. The other 50% ferments in small stainless steel vats macerating up to 15 days. The wines then age for 18 months in 228L French oak cask. 1,525 cases produced. An earthy dried herbal nose and dried red fruit on the palate. Plush full bodied wine, with a rough slightly gritty texture, and intense finish. $42 US. 4/5
