96 points Wine Spectator: (non-auction) A laser beam of fruit and mineral. Vivid aromas and flavors of apricot, mandarin orange, vanilla and mineral are etched into an incisive structure. The texture is creamy, yet the overall impression is very intense and focused. Drink now through 2020. (3/31/03)

A Nahe estate - and one of the top performers. Not many estates outside the Mosel receive as much attention as those within it, but if there are any exceptions then perhaps Dönnhoff is one. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Dönnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Dönnhoff. The Dönnhoffs own vines in only the top vineyards of the Nahe Valley. These vineyards are sited in several nearby villages, namely Niederhäuser (Hermannshöhle), Oberhauser (Brucke), Schloßböckelheimer (Felsenberg and Kupfergrube), and Norheimer (Kirschheck and Dellchen). The vineyards are principally slate or volcanic soil, and are planted with Riesling and also some Burgundian varieties. Read less
