94+ points Fine Wine Review: The Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Spätlese is a bigger wine than the Kirschheck, with long citric flavors and plenty of purity. (Issue #120; 2008)

H. Dönnhoff:
A Nahe estate - and one of the top performers. Not many estates outside the Mosel receive as much attention as those within it, but if there are any exceptions then perhaps Dönnhoff is one. A Nahe estate - and one of the top performers. Not many estates outside the Mosel receive as much attention as those within it, but if there are any exceptions then perhaps Dönnhoff is one. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Dönnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Dönnhoff. The Dönnhoffs own vines in only the top vineyards of the Nahe Valley. These vineyards are sited in several nearby villages, namely Niederhäuser (Hermannshöhle), Oberhauser (Brucke), Schloßböckelheimer (Felsenberg and Kupfergrube), and Norheimer (Kirschheck and Dellchen). The vineyards are principally slate or volcanic soil, and are planted with Riesling and also some Burgundian varieties. Read less

Donnhoff's 2006 Kreuznacher Krotenpfuhl Riesling Spatlese smells of pear, yellow cherry and honeysuckle. With luscious, honeyed richness and textural plushness, yet bright fresh fruit, invigorating salinity and mineral pungency, and terrific penetration, this kaleidoscopically dynamic wine could keep you occupied for a long time. I would anticipate up to two decades cellaring. RP
