Dönnhoff H. Riesling Auslese Nahe Oberhäuser Brücke 1993

Member Review by Sweetstuff:

TN: 1993 Oberhauser Brücke Riesling Auslese (Allenbesitz) Wgt. Hermann Dönnhoff; AP 7 753 010 012 94; Opened 6/06 at Winds; Yelllow Springs, OH, after a 2007 Rie; note written 6/08. $20/375 ml; Village Corner, Ann Arbor; Terry Theise Estate Selections; Imported by AHD Associates; Troy, MI 48083. Importer Weinhandel Walter Strub GmbH. 55283 Nierstein/Rh.Starts burnished bronze, but becomes deep gold-orange, and very refractive, with some tartrate crystals. The wine is young for type, with considerable young-style tastes and scents. The predominant scent is peach and gasoline. There is some caramel and cherry and some soupiness.Vivid acidity and nearly BA sweet, although with more lissomeness. This wine will take several days after opening. to develop the style I've had in other bottles of this vintage. The wine is highly polished as to style and could have been aged ten to fifteen years more. I think this variation is due mainly to uneven cork quality. There is just a touch of heat on the end-palate.

H. Dönnhoff:
A Nahe estate - and one of the top performers. Not many estates outside the Mosel receive as much attention as those within it, but if there are any exceptions then perhaps Dönnhoff is one. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Dönnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Dönnhoff. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Dönnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Dönnhoff. The Dönnhoffs own vines in only the top vineyards of the Nahe Valley. These vineyards are sited in several nearby villages, namely Niederhäuser (Hermannshöhle), Oberhauser (Brucke), Schloßböckelheimer (Felsenberg and Kupfergrube), and Norheimer (Kirschheck and Dellchen). The vineyards are principally slate or volcanic soil, and are planted with Riesling and also some Burgundian varieties. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
