Dönnhoff H. Riesling Auslese Gold Cap Nahe Oberhäuser Brücke 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

95 points Wine Spectator: Shows fine intensity on a light-weight frame. Manages to maintain delicacy while expressing apricot, papaya, red berry and floral notes. Balanced and well-structured, this focuses a beam of fruit on the finish. Best from 2009 through 2030. 128 cases imported.

The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Dönnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Dönnhoff. The Dönnhoffs own vines in only the top vineyards of the Nahe Valley. These vineyards are sited in several nearby villages, namely Niederhäuser (Hermannshöhle), Oberhauser (Brucke), Schloßböckelheimer (Felsenberg and Kupfergrube), and Norheimer (Kirschheck and Dellchen). The vineyards are principally slate or volcanic soil, and are planted with Riesling and also some Burgundian varieties. Read less

nice rich, full flavors of grapefruit, melon and some stoniness. ultimately, however, lacks any kind of precision or grace. not my favorite.
