Dona Paula Estate Malbec Mendoza 2010
Dark - almost black robe. Slow to open in the glass with muted creme de cassis and stewed plum. A smooth entry, with quite warm dark fruit flavors. Medium, somewhat alcoholic finish but with nice soft tannins. All in all, a reasonable value - if a bit on the rustic side.Add winemaker's notes

Los Cardos, Lujan de Cuyo: Opaque black plum hue, aromas of dark berries and herbs; flavor notes of stewed black cherries, tart red and black berries, and mocha across a medium palate of supple tannins.
I would rate it 86 points. Dry but a little edgy. Meaning the tannin and bitter notes come out a little too much. Nose is restrained but clean.
Nice wine. Nose: lots of raspberries. spicy. Palate: more raspberry. great acid. Goes well with meat. Alc: 14%
Big jammy fruit on the nose with some detectable alcohol that made the nose a bit hot. Fruit forward on the palate with potent acidity and very noticeable yet finely textured tannins. Even with the high levels of acidity and tannin the wine still maintains a somewhat soft texture. Paired reasonably well with a beef tenderloin filet.
I really don't know how to review this. A very distinct flavor, very powerful in the nose and first impression. Very nice body and mouthfeel and a very clean finish. Not as fruity as some Malbecs. A very strange but good underlying flavor that I can't describe. More complex than many Malbecs I've tried.
great wine good with beef great fruit flavor
External Reviews for Dona Paula Estate Malbec Mendoza
The 2010 Malbec comes from Dona Paula's vineyard in Altamira and Gualtallary and is aged in first, second and third use French barriques. It has an intense bouquet with dark plum, black olive and raspberry aromas that is almost over-powering. The palate is full-bodied with fleshy, supple tannins and copious blueberry and cassis fruit that lead to a "spherical" finish. This is a decent commercial Malbec at a decent price. Drink now.
Intense violet color. In the nose, aromas of black fruits, violets and spices. Mineral and graphite notes. Great balance and freshness in the mouth, with good concentration and medium structure. Soft tannins and persistent finish.
Dark and winey with warm currant paste cocoa powder and Turkish coffee notes backed by solid grip on the fleshy finish. Nice hint of grilled sage adds dimension too. Drink now through 2009.`-Wine Spectator 90 Points`The opaque purple 2007 Malbec reveals a brooding black fruit bouquet ripe flavors excellent depth and grip and 2-3 years of aging potential. Drink this outstanding value from 2010 to 2018.`-Jay Miller Wine Advocate 90 Points
