Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Petit Vedot Canernet Franc 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

"The elegant, dark plum/purple/garnet-colored 2004 Dominus exhibits a big, sweet, cedary, roasted herb, mocha, black cherry liqueur, black currant, and earth-scented perfume. Medium to full-bodied with silky tannin as well as a luscious mouthfeel and finish, it should be more accessible in its youth than many of its predecessors, but easily last for two decades. Score: 94. —Robert Parker." The six pack is available in a wooden box.

Dominus Estate is owned by Christian Moueix from Libourne, France. His goal, supported by the team at the winery, is to produce great wine representing the unique terroir of the Napanook vineyard. Our philosophy is very traditional—that is, in order to produce great wine we need the best possible grapes. Therefore, we concentrate our efforts in the vineyard. The vines are meticulously manicured—we believe in crop-thinning, "nettoyage," washing the grapes, and other labor-intensive activities. During each visit to California, Christian Moueix spends most of his time in the vineyard, not only because he loves it, but also to better understand the natural expression of the vintage. Following the maturation of the clusters allows us to harvest the grapes under the best conditions. When the fruit enters the cellar after harvest, it follows a natural process of fermentation with few interventions. Our approach is that of a minimalist's. Following fermentation, the wine is blended in a manner that expresses the natural qualities of the fruit, not forced into a style with preconceived notions. Read less

Rich and balanced like a $100 bottle should be. One of the best California can offer.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine ReviewThis very generous and well-ripened offering starts out with an involving display of cherries, cassis, herbs, sweet oak and loam in its deep and decidedly complex aromas, and it follows with equally wide-ranging flavors that show a real sense of layering and plenty of depth. Ripe, but always in balance and firmed by a good dose of youthful tannins, this latest Dominus bottling is among the winery's very best efforts ever, and it is certain to get better yet over the next decade.Wine Advocate ReviewRated 94The elegant, dark plum/purple/garnet-colored 2004 Dominus exhibits a big, sweet, cedary, roasted herb, mocha, black cherry liqueur, black currant, and earth-scented perfume. Drink 2006 - 2026.Wine Tasting NotesThe vintage is deep red in color, with an intense nose of vanilla, black currants and cedar. The elegant integration of the tannins and fruit is noticed immediately. Flavors of warm mulled spices on the mid-palate complement the balanced and complex structure. The long, aromatic finish exhibits notes of leather and cardamom.

Weingut: Dominus EstateLand: USARegion: KalifornienRebsorten: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit VerdotInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 14 Vol.%Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16 - 18°CFassreife: in Barriques gereift (16 Monate)Auszeichnungen des Dominus Estate 'Dominus' 2004:94 Parker Punkte Rotwein > USA > Kalifornien

Christian Moueix fell in love with the Napa Valley and its wines while studying at U.C. Davis in 1968 and 1969. After many years of searching for the ideal vineyard location, in 1982 he entered into a joint venture with Robin Lail and Marcia Smith, John Daniel's two daughters. This was the birth of Dominus, and its first vintage was harvested in 1983. Since then, Christian Moueix has worked to restore the unique character of the original vineyard. Christian Moueix began his career in Pomerol, where merlot is the dominant varietal grown. At Dominus Estate, the essential grape varietal is cabernet sauvignon, the best suited for the Napanook vineyard terroir. Cabernet franc, merlot and petit verdot are also used in the final blend. The 2004 blend is: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot. All aged 16 months in French oak barrels, 40% new. Extremely Limited.
